Sustaining Local Journalism: A Critical Discussion & Networking Event
Recent data from NORC/Northwestern’s Chicago-area News Consumption Survey reveals key insights into local news habits. While 53% of residents trust local media to get the facts right, only 10% turn to it for civic information or to become more informed voters. Additionally, 51% of respondents believe they shouldn't have to pay for local news. These findings underscore the urgent need for sustainable business models to keep local journalism viable and to maintain its role as a trusted source in our communities.
Join us for an engaging panel discussion with local journalism leaders on October 22 from 8:30-10 AM at NORC’s downtown office. This is a unique opportunity to connect with and learn from local journalists while discussing the challenges facing local media. The event will be followed by a networking breakfast where you'll have the chance to connect with fellow Chicago area communications professionals.
Panelists:
Daniel Ash, President of the Field Foundation and Press Forward steering committee member, will discuss philanthropic efforts to support journalism.
Maple Walker Lloyd, Development Director at Block Club Chicago, will share how local journalism impacts communities.
A Chicago area journalist, to be announced
Jennifer Amdur Spitz, social impact communications consultant at Amdur Spitz & Associates, will moderate the discussion.
