Since the pandemic began, misinformation about COVID-19 and the vaccine has proliferated on mainstream and social media.
As new vaccines have brought hope for stemming the crisis, vaccination rates in Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities are lagging, while BIPOC communities are disproportionately affected by the virus in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. Lack of access to the vaccine and distrust arising out of the medical industry’s mistreatment of their communities are some of the barriers.
Join us Thursday, March 4 at 4 pm for a conversation with community outreach and communications professionals working on vaccine distribution in BIPOC communities and COVID-19 research.

Louis Shackelford, project manager, external relations with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center COVID-19 Prevention Network
We will discuss current information about the COVID-19 vaccine and its efficacy, important considerations about communicating with Indigenous communities about the vaccine, examples of what is working and what’s not when it comes to communicating about vaccine distribution, and the role of storytelling in dispelling misinformation.
