Mark has spent the last 25 years creating change through strategic communications, powerful messaging, and engaging trainings. Mark currently serves as the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Chief Communications Officer. Mark oversees a division of several NC DPI communication, graphics, website and social media staff all aligned to share NCDPI’s communications strategies and priorities. Mark is responsible for shaping the agency's public image, reputation, and stakeholder relationships and advises the State Superintendent and the DPI leadership team on matters related to communication and messaging, responding to crisis and strategic communication. Mark worked for ten years at Spitfire Strategies where he built communication capacity and trains nonprofit leaders, partnering with over 800 advocates in community development, workforce improvement, and affordable housing. He also supports Enterprising Ventures of Color and Prosperity Now's initiatives on childhood savings and racial wealth divide.

Previously, Mark was the director of communications for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation of North Carolina and worked with Active Living by Design on promoting healthier communities. He has also contributed to numerous campaigns in Durham, North Carolina, and enjoys hiking, biking, and exploring nature. Recently, Mark completed the northern Camino trail in Spain, walking 507 miles in 24 days.
